College Throwdown with AJ the DJ
Andre A. Jones, “AJ the DJ”, is the owner of AJ the DJ Entertainment. AJ’s company includes a disc jockey service as well as audio-visual sound rental. He is a resident of Macon, Georgia. He is a graduate of Southwest High School where his career as an entertainer began during his sophomore year. As a teenager, he was a radio personality on WIBB radio station. In addition to his job on the radio, he began to freelance as a DJ in the Macon and Middle Georgia area. After graduating from Southwest High School, AJ attended Howard University in Washington, DC. He later transferred to Mercer University where he received his Bachelor in Business Administration degree in Marketing. After graduating from college, he accepted a job as a recruiter with Nielsen Media Research (The Nielsen TV Ratings). In spite of his success at Nielsen Media Research, AJ continued to work in his business part-time. He later left Nielsen and pursued his business full-time.
Today, AJ Entertainment is the premier choice for weddings, proms, class reunions, birthday events and corporate events in the Middle GA area. Some of his corporate clients include Cox Communications, The Tubman Museum, The Macon Water Authority, AARP, The Warner Robins Air Force Base, Coliseum Health System, The Marriott, Forrest B. Johnson and Associates and Adams & Jordan Attorneys. In addition to his corporate accounts, AJ provides services for various civic and community organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. He also serves as the DJ of choice for high school proms in central Georgia.
AJ is very active in his community. He was most recently recognized as the 2013 Big Brother of the Year for the state of Georgia. He was also the recipient of the 2013 True Gris Award. AJ made national news when he was announced as the DJ, to perform, at the first integrated proms at both Crisp County High School and Wilcox County High School. AJ’s past success includes being the main speaker at the 2014 Macon Telegraph Golden Eagle Award’s Ceremony. He was recognized by the Georgia Music Hall as “a pioneer in laying the foundation for the future of urban music in Macon and the state of Georgia.” The city of Macon observed October 27, 2000 and August 16, 2015 as “AJ the DJ” day, for outstanding contributions to the entertainment arena in the city of Macon. The city of Forsyth observed December 20, 2015 as “AJ the DJ” day, for outstanding contributions in music and entertainment. The historic Douglass Theatre dedicated a balcony seat, D109, to AJ.
AJ continues to be one of Macon’s most epic entertainers. He has expanded his business to include mentoring young people with the same dreams and aspirations he had as a child. He lives in Macon, Georgia with his family.
