The Bicentennial Stage is made possible by the Peyton Anderson Foundation to feature local acts to honor Macon’s Bicentennial Celebration.
Arthur “Bo” Ponder is one of Macon’s finest entertainers. Mr. Ponder has been active in the music business as a songwriter, a singer, and a recording artist. He reordered for Phil Walden’s Capricorn label and in 1969 had a hit record with “Dr. Strange Love”. He has continued to perform live through the years in Macon, around the US, and also overseas. Bo Ponder is heavily connected to music history in Macon. He started his career at the age of 16 with Johnny Jenkins and the Pine Toppers, replacing Otis Redding as lead singer. Those were some large shoes to fill but Bo had the vocal power and showmanship skills to do it. And he still has those skills going for him today. It’s actually amazing that at his age Mr. Ponder is still considered one of the best vocalists in Macon. And that’s a sentiment that’s shared by audiences and musicians alike. Arthur “Bo” Ponder delivers a set of soul music that travels
from classics right into the modern day.
